The Protek
U2000A is a low cost universal time interval and frequency
counter.
It has
the following functions:
- Two
inputs. The sensitivity is typically better than 50 mV
rms. The input impedance can be selected as either 1 M
ohm or 50 ohm.

Frequency: Measure the frequency in the range 0 to 3
GHz.

Period: Measure the period of a signal. This is
useful for low frequency, since it is quicker and easier to
measure the period of a low frequency signal. Then the
frequency can be calculated by taking the inverse of the
measurement.
- Time
Interval: This is where there are two signal inputs.
The U2000A will measure the time difference between the two
signals. The rising edge or falling edge can be used
to make these measurements. Time differences from 200
ns to 1000 seconds can be measured.

Ratio: Again there are two frequency inputs. The
ratio of A/B will be calculated.

Totalize: Here there is one input and the U2000A will
just count as long as there is a signal there. When
the signal is removed, the counting will stop.
The
accuracy of any measurement is related to the accuracy of the
reference oscillator or timebase. The U2000A's reference
oscillator has an ageing rate of 0.3 ppm and a temperature
coefficient of 0.5 ppm over the 0 to 30 degree range.
