Precision
Test Systems manufacture a range of
items that can be used in UMTS and or GSM propagation
testing. These products have been designed against
customers requirements.
The range
consists of signal generators, power amplifiers and
field strength meters.
This allows
a high power signal to be generated to a test antenna.
The field strength meter is then carried around the site
area and the signal level can be measured and recorded.
Thus these
instruments allow complete propagation testing.
FSG Units (Field Signal
Generators)
The FSG
(field signal generator) series are handheld, portable
signal generators especially designed to cover the UMTS
and GSM frequency bands. Each unit generates a CW
signal. The units are synthesized and the
frequency is simply entered into the keyboard. The
amplitude can be altered from +20 dBm to -20 dBm in 1 dB
steps (100 mW 10
μW).
The FSG960B
covers 890 MHz to 960 MHz and can be set in 100 kHz
increments.
The FSG2170
covers 1710 MHz to 2170 MHz and can be set in 100 kHz
increments.
Both unit
are light weight, handheld, portable units operating
from rechargeable batteries. A LCD display shows the
current frequency / output level setting.
PA Units (Power Amplifiers)
To increase
the output of the FSG units, two power amplifiers are
available. When used with the FSG series, the
power amplifier will generate a CW signal from 2 mW to
20W. The power amplifier has a levelled output and
is controlled by the FSG unit with automatic gain
control.
The
PA960B
covers 890 MHz to 960 MHz and the PA2170 covers 1710 MHz
to 2170 MHz.
FSM Units (Field Strength Meters)
Various
field strength meters are available including the FSM
series and 3201 / 3290 series.
The FSM
series are small handheld portable units that measure
the signal strength appearing at the units input socket.
Levels from +20 dBm to -110 dBm can be measured to an
accuracy of 3 dB. They are narrow band units that
only measure one channel frequency at a time. The
frequency of interest is entered into the unit and the
synthesiser sets the field strength meter to that
frequency. The FSM units measure CW or AM signals
and will also capture GSM signals using the "peak
capture" mode.
The FSM960B
covers 890 MHz to 960 MHz and the FSM2170 covers 1710
MHz to 2170 MHz.
3290 Series (Field Analyzers)
The 3290
field strength meter is a portable unit covering the 100
kHz to 2.9 GHz frequency range in one unit.
An LCD display shows the field strength in various
frequency channels. The 3290 can also be set to
scan multiple channels. An RS232 interface and PC
control software allow measurements to be downloaded to
a PC. Input levels from -60 dBm to -10 dBm can be
measured.
