GPS10RBN-26 Ultra Low Phase Noise Frequency Standard
Introduction
The GPS10RBN-26 is our ultra low phase noise, 10 MHz,
GPS disciplined, rubidium frequency standard.
Other frequencies such as 5 MHz are also available.
Rubidium versus Crystal based units
Rubidium oscillators far out perform crystal based
oscillators (OXCO) when it comes to accuracy and
stability by a factory of 30 to 100 times.
Our GPS10RBN-26 GPS disciplined, frequency standard is
at least 30 times more accurate than the best OXCO's
available.
However, there are two disadvantages of the rubidium
over a crystal based unit, namely phase noise and
equipment life.
The GPS10RBN-26 now address's this issue. It has
ultra low phase noise, comparable to the best OXCO's and
the rubidium oscillator has been designed for a twenty
year life. Our rubidium oscillator has now been
made in large quantities for over 11 years and results
show this twenty year life is attainable and even a
pessimistic specification.
Phase Noise
Phase noise is often a overlooked but it a very
important specification. Jitter is directly
related to phase noise. The lower the phase noise,
the lower the jitter of the frequency output.
Below shows the output of a GPS10RBN-26 versus our ultra
low noise reference oscillators. Note: this is the
phase noise of both oscillators combined. The
actual phase noise of the GPS10RBN-26 on its own is up
to 3 dB better than shown here. However, to be
conservative, we use these results as the specification
values.

The vertical scale is phase noise in dBc/Hz. The
horizontal scale is the offset from the 10 MHz carrier.
The GPS10RBN-26
is based on our our top selling
GPS10RBN. Both units combine the stability of a rubidium oscillator
with the accuracy of the GPS satellite system.Multiple Outputs
The GPS10RBN-26 has built in ultra low
phase noise distribution amplifiers that provide high
channel to channel and reverse isolation. Up to 20
signal outputs can be supplied inside the 19" 2U case.
These outputs can be at any frequency, e.g. 5 MHz, 10
MHz, 10.23 MHz, 13 MHz, 100 MHz, 1 GHz etc. All
outputs are phase locked to the main rubidium reference.
Many Options
There are nearly 100 options for the
GPS10RBN-26. If there isn't an option that meets your
requirements, we will make one for you. That's how
we've got so many options already.
Some of the options include:
Squarewave outputs or Sinewave outputs
DDS Signal generator. Provides
a 0 - 80 MHz output in 1 µHz steps.
Remote control interfaces, either
RS232, USB or Ethernet
Windows software and software for
remote operation via the internet.
Alarm outputs, either change over
relay or alarm via GSM - SMS or text
Redundancy. Two units operate as a
pair for high reliability systems.
Time Code outputs, including IRIG-B,
BCD, SMPTE, NTP.
External DC input and/or battery
backup
Lightening Protection for the GPS
antenna
Fiber optic links for the antenna
cable and main signal outputs.
External locking, either 1 pps, 5
MHz, 10 MHz or any other frequency.
