GPS10RBN Rubidium Frequency Standard

The GPS10RBN is our top selling GPS Disciplined, Rubidium Frequency Standard.  The GPS10RBN combines the stability of a rubidium oscillator with the accuracy of the GPS satellite system.

The GPS10RBN is being used in over 53 countries by many space observation centers, telecommunication companies, GSM cell phone networks providers, major universities as well as large manufacturing centers and the military.

What makes the GPS10RBN so special when compared to its competitors is listed below:

  • Competitive Pricing.

  • Low phase noise.  Up to 30 dB better than some competitors.

  • High frequency accuracy.  At least ten times more accurate than OXCO based systems.

  • Multiple outputs locked to main reference at any frequency from 0 to 40 GHz.

  • Low Microphonics.

  • High reliability thus a three year warranty

  • Many options  meaning it can be adapted to suit your individual requirements.

Rubidium Based Unit

The GPS10RBN incorporates an atomic rubidium oscillator as the main frequency reference, but costs the same as some competitive units that use less accurate crystal oscillators. The rubidium used in the GPS10RBN is 30 times more stable than any OXCO available. Therefore the GPS10RBN achieves a frequency stability of typically 7 x 10E-13 in 1000 sec.

Frequency Standards that use a crystal oscillator as the main reference can only achieve this stability when measurements are averaged over one week or one month.

Accurate Timing Outputs

There are two 1 pps (pulse per second) outputs that are derived from the GPS receiver or the rubidium oscillator. The 1pps signal from the GPS receiver is aligned to UTC with less than 20 ns error. The 1 pps from the rubidium is also aligned to UTC but has the advantage of less than 300 ps jitter.

Very Low Phase Noise

The GPS10RBN is one of the lowest phase noise frequency standards available, at any price! Phase noise is often overlooked, but is one of the most important specifications of a frequency standard.

It's essential for a reference to a frequency distribution system to have better phase noise than equipment is supplies.  The standard GPS10RBN typically achieves -134 dBc/Hz at a 10 Hz offset and even lower phase noise is available via a special option.

Multiple Outputs

The GPS10RBN has built in ultra low phase noise distribution amplifiers that provide high channel to channel and reverse isolation.  Up to 20 signal outputs can be supplied inside the 19" 2U case.  These outputs can be at any frequency, e.g. 5 MHz, 10 MHz, 10.23 MHz, 13 MHz, 100 MHz, 1 GHz etc.  All outputs are phase locked to the main rubidium reference.

Many Options

There are nearly 100 options for the GPS10RBN. If there isn't an option that meets your requirements, we will make one for you.  That's how we've got so many options already.

Some of the options include:

  • Different frequency outputs.  Any frequency from 0 to 40 GHz.

  • Squarewave outputs or Sinewave outputs

  • DDS Signal generator.  Provides a 0 - 80 MHz output in 1 µHz steps.

  • Remote control interfaces, either RS232, USB or Ethernet

  • Windows software and software for remote operation via the internet.

  • Alarm outputs, either change over relay or alarm via GSM - SMS or text

  • Redundancy. Two units operate as a pair for high reliability systems.

  • Time Code outputs, including IRIG-B, BCD, SMPTE, NTP.

  • External DC input and/or battery backup

  • Lightening Protection for the GPS antenna

  • Fiber optic links for the antenna cable and main signal outputs.

  • External locking, either 1 pps, 5 MHz, 10 MHz or any other frequency.
