General Description

The DA series of 50 Ω distribution amplifiers are new products from Precision Test Systems. They offer one frequency input channel and multiple output channels. They are housed in aluminum 19” rack mount cases.  Each output channel offers a buffered and isolated output.  The output channels are isolated from each other as well as from the input channel.  Thus the input channel is unaffected from noise, or short circuits occurring on any output channel. Normally the input signal is from a master oscillator such as a Rubidium Oscillator (examples are the GPS10R or RFS10 available from Precision Test Systems), Caesium or Hydrogen Maser. Of course any other oscillator such as a quartz oscillator can be used.

Most units operates at one fixed frequency input, except the DA1-100-10 and DA1-150-10-E  which are 100 MHz and 150 MHz wideband model.  Models are available covering the frequency ranges 100 kHz to 100 MHz.  The output frequency is usually the same as the input frequency, but it doesn’t necessary have to be.  For example the DA051010 has an input frequency of 5 MHz and delivers outputs at 10 MHz.

The picture above shows the DA101010.  This unit accepts a 10 MHz input and provides ten buffered, 10 MHz outputs as well as two squarewave outputs.  The squarewave outputs can be independently set to 10 MHz, 5 MHz, 1 MHz, 100 kHz and 1 pulse per second.   There is also a slave output to connect another DA101010 in parallel to give 1 input 20 output (or more) capabilities.

The DA series can be manufactured to suit customer’s specific requirements, or standard models can be purchased.  Typical features include:

  • Frequency ranges from 100 kHz to 150 MHz
  • 50 Ω input and output impedance
  • Very low phase noise, -135 dBc @ 1 Hz, -170 dBc/Hz floor noise
  • Input and Output frequencies can be different
  • 19” rack mount case
  • Input level is AGC controlled. Output remains stable with varying input levels
  • Pure sinewave outputs.  Harmonics are -65 dBc (-30 dBc on the DA1-100-10 and DA1-150-10-E)
  • Output level of each channel is independently adjustable from < 0 dBm to +13 dBm
  • Optional output levels to +20 dBm (DA1-100-10)
  • Slave output to connect more units in parallel for greater number of outputs
  • Alarm output option.  A dual changeover relay is activated if the input signal is lost or is low level
  • DDS output option.  Generates any frequency from 1 µHz to 80 MHz in 1 µHz steps. Output is phase locked to the input
  • RS232 interface option.  Allows monitoring of unit via RS232 interface
  • Rear or front panel connectors
  • Redundancy option.  Two units connected in parallel to give a redundant output.  Automatic switchover
  • Very low phase noise
  • Internal 10 MHz backup oscillator.  Automatically switched in if the main input signal is lost
  • 230VAC, 115 VAC or 12VDC power supply as standard
  • Matching frequency sources available.  These range from low cost TXCO and OXCO crystal oscillators, the RFS10 rubidium oscillator and the GPS10R, GPS Disciplined, Rubidium Frequency Standard
  • Digital pulse amplifiers also available (TT-10188)
  • Low cost
