The GPS10R and GPS10RBN are our most popular frequency
standards. Both are GPS disciplined, rubidium
frequency standards with outstanding performance and
reliability.
Over fifty options are available for these models and
the NTP option is described here.
Option 38 for the GPS10RBN GPS disciplined rubidium is a
NTP network time server option.
This option allows the GPS10RBN to put accurate time
information onto a network. NTP is arguably the
most reliable method for sharing time information on a
network (LAN, WAN or internet).
The option can be fitted to the GPS10RBN and also the
GPS10R.
The concept is simple as plugging the server option into
the network , configuring the unit and allowing any
client to request "highly accurate" time from the NTP
time server option.
The NTP output is provided on a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet
connector.
Typical accuracy of the network time code is 20 ms.
Normally this option is ordered with option 39, a second
RS232 interface. This is because this option
communicates with the GPS10RBN via its RS232 interface.
By ordering option 39 as well, a separate RS232
interface is still available to communicate with the
GPS10RBN.
Other time code options are also available for the
GPS10RBN such as:
-
IRIG-B:
IRIG stands for
Inter-Range Instrumentation Group and these codes
were originally designed for sending time or other
data round missile test ranges.
-
ASCII Time Code: Simple time code sent over
the RS232.
-
BCD Time Code: Binary code decimal time
code, 48 bit with 100 ns resolution.
More information on these time codes are available by
